The Metal Shop

There are many facets to the metal shop.

Clean and precise TIG welding…

Loud fabrication and messy ARC welding…

Organic shapes cut out of sheet metals and wires…

Schlepping tools and equipment in Moxy, zippy MiniCountryman turned work truck, to your home for installations…

I expect every week or month to look a little bit different on this page. That excites me. Stay tuned to see what is in the works.

Garden Style Bird Sculptures

When a wonderful client requested custom bird sculptures in the style of using old gardening tools, a new creative venture was before me! I had tons of fun designing these quirky birds.

Now all the varying combinations of materials and subject matter are flying through my head. Message me if you would like your very own Vibrant Lawn Sculpture!

The Horse Leg

To date this has been my favorite sculpture that I’ve made. The presence of this sculpture is large and regal, just like the large Frisian horse breed I envisioned while sculpting it.

Made of solid steel rods of varying thicknesses up to 1/2” thick, hand bent using the Hossfeld Bender no.2. The base is made of torched wood, the shoe is made of melted plexiglass.

Message me if you can imagine a large sculpture in your residence. I would love the opportunity to sculpt something in this vein for a future client.

Rebuild and Paint Refinishing

Summer 2019

When a work truck backed into this metal fence surrounding an Arlington, Va neighborhood, I suggested removing the old paint and refinished the whole fence while I was there to fix the broken section. When the building manager agreed, I did exactly that. Here is a picture that shows just how crumbly old fence paint can get after decades of exposure to the elements. The section of fence on the left has been wire brushed, wiped clean with acetone, and was later treated with OSPHO to deactivate any rust particles before being painted with primer and black glossy enamel paint.
